Letter from Gabriella Maldonado, regarding meal choices

2018-10-04 00:00:00

We felt it imperative to update our Adams City High School (ACHS) families about the meal choices available to all students at ACHS.

The Adams 14 Nutrition Services Department provides a nutritious breakfast and lunch option to more than 1,800 ACHS students each day.

Like most districts in Colorado, our menus change from day-to-day, providing students with a wide-variety of choices, many of which encourage growth in students’ culinary and nutritional experiences.  ACHS offers six menu lines daily, each with a complete meal option in order to suit student preferences.  Some lines offer an action station component that allows us to create meals made to order for the students.

Our Nutrition Services Department utilizes a strategic calculating method to determine how much food to prepare for our six complete meal options each day. This includes a nearly 10 percent surplus, to ensure that we do not run out of our complete meal options.

Daily meal count and production records for ACHS over the last week and a half indicates that on most days, an excess of food was discarded after the school day.

As a district reminder, Adams County School District 14 students are allowed one free breakfast and one free lunch per day. If a student wishes to purchase more food beyond the free meal, the student will be charged an a la carte price.  Nutrition Services often has additional a la carte options available via vending machines as an additional service to our students.

The health and safety of our students is our top priority, and I am happy to answer any follow-up questions you may have concerning meals at ACHS.

Respectfully,

Gabriella Maldonado, Ed. S.                                         Kasja Larson, RD, SNS
